SlamNation fulfills all four of the functions of theatre by:
Actors: While the poets are giving their poems, they were acting out what they were saying, was expressing themselves, and acted like a person that would fit into the story. They would not normally act like this in their regular lives. An good example of this would be Beau Sia, when he reads his poetry he express the story so much, he yells and acts out his poetry. But when he was just talking to the camera, he wasn't yelling and was just acting like a normal person.
Audience: The poets are giving their poems to a group of people/the audience who came to watch the poets. At the first part of the film, the audience of the New York judges were much easier in scoring, but at Portland the judges were more tough.
Space: The place where the contest was held was in Portland in a theatre i believe.
Story: Each of the poets tell a story about themselves or stories about the world it is now. Beau Sia, also tells a story about him at the gym and what he hears and sees at the gym.
Even though i only really talked about one person, everyone that participated in the competition did all of these. They each had different ways they wanted to act and different stories they wanted to tell. The only same things that each poet really had the same were the space they performed at and the audience that they gave their poetry too. I think Slam is very cool because when they are acting out what they are saying it is a lot more entertaining than just watching someone read poetry. I also like how much energy they put into there act.
